How To Be A Disney Princess

I've always absolutely loved Disney movies. Always. Forever. There's something so magical (I mean, that's probably the point) about the Disney animated movies and the Princesses are no exception. I know many adults (myself included, if you can call me an adult at 19) who still to this day adore the Princesses. And for good reason, I believe. I think each of the Princesses has something important to teach everyone of all ages. In the words of my sophomore year English teacher in high school, "What can we learn that can't be taught in a Disney movie?" Obviously that's a bit of an exaggeration but let's just get to the list, shall we?

  1. Smarts
    1. Every princess has her wits about her. Go to school, read books, find out more about what interests you. Learn how the world works so you'll be prepared to face society.
  2. Get in touch with nature
    1. The human world isn't all there is. Lose yourself in nature and appreciate its beauty.
  3. Find your talent
    1. For some, it's singing, others it's shooting arrows. Find what you're good at and get better at it. Become an expert on the thing you love.
  4. Don't stop chasing your dreams
    1. If there's one thing every princess knows, it's never give up. If you have a dream, you CAN achieve it. Believe in yourself and stick to it. You'll get there.
  5. Embrace your beauty
    1. Find your style. Find what you look good in and what you feel comfortable in. You don't need to follow every trend. Set your own.
  6. Always be polite
    1. Never be rude. Even to people who are rude to you. You can put people in their place without a harsh word leaving your lips.
  7. Be independent
    1. You do not need a prince. You are your own person and nobody can take that away from you.
  8. Love yourself
    1. Cinderella didn't listen to her stepsisters when they told her she was worthless, and you don't need to listen to that negativity either. Always smile. Know that you are beautiful and that you are worth diamonds and with that you'll be that much closer to being a princess.
There are lots of ways you can be a Princess! Being a Princess is about a lot more than superficial royalty and money. Remember the words of Princess Mia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, "Anyone can be a princess...To be a princess, you've got to believe that you're a princess. You've gotta walk the way you think a princess should walk, so think tall, smile and wave, and just have fun." (Princess Diaries II: Royal Engagement)

If Disney isn't your cup of tea, check out Princess Di! Or Audrey Hepburn! Sure, Audrey wasn't really a princess in the most direct sense of the word but she's probably one of the top authorities on princess behavior.

"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." ~ Princess Diana

"For beautiful eyes, look for good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." ~ Audrey Hepburn

Go forth and flaunt that new princess attitude!!
